SMS QR Code Generator
Get people texting you in one scan. The code opens the phone's messaging app with your number and message filled in — they just tap Send.
How an SMS QR code works
The code holds your phone number and an optional message. Scanning it opens the phone's messaging app with a new text to your number, the message already typed. The person can edit it, and nothing is sent until they tap Send.
It is a regular text message, so the sender's normal SMS rates apply, and it works without mobile data or Wi-Fi.
Popular uses
- Keyword sign-ups — "Scan to text JOIN for offers".
- Polls and competitions — one code per option: "Text A", "Text B".
- Feedback — a pre-filled "Feedback:" message on receipts and counters.
- Support and callbacks — "Please call me back about…".
- Appointments — "I'd like to book an appointment".
Writing the pre-filled message
- Keep it short. A single keyword such as
JOINmakes the code simplest to scan and the replies easiest to sort. - Say what happens next on the printed material — "You'll get one text a week, reply STOP to cancel".
- Use the number in international format, for example
+92 300 1234567, if people may scan it from abroad.
If you send marketing messages back, follow the rules on consent and opting out that apply where you operate.
SMS or WhatsApp?
SMS works on every phone, even without internet, which makes it the safest choice for mixed audiences. Where most of your customers use WhatsApp, a WhatsApp QR code gives a richer conversation with photos and voice notes.
Frequently asked questions
Does an SMS QR code send the text automatically?
No. It opens the messaging app with the number and message filled in. The person decides whether to send it.
Does it cost anything to send?
Creating the code is free. Sending the text is charged at the sender's normal SMS rate, which is often included in their phone plan.
Does it work without internet?
Sending the text does. It is a normal SMS, so it only needs mobile signal, not data or Wi-Fi.
Can I change the message after printing?
No. The number and message are stored in the code. Create a new code to change them.
