GS1 Digital Link QR Code Generator
Put your product's GTIN in a QR code that shoppers can scan with a phone and that GS1-enabled systems can read — one code on the pack instead of several.
What a GS1 Digital Link is
A GS1 Digital Link is a normal web address with your product identifiers built in. For example:
https://yourbrand.com/01/09506000134352/10/ABC123?17=271231
/01/followed by the 14-digit GTIN — your product number (the one in your barcode)./10/followed by the batch or lot (optional).?17=followed by the expiry date as YYMMDD (optional).
A shopper's phone opens the link like any other web page, while GS1-aware systems read the identifiers from the same code. The domain can be your own website or GS1's resolver at id.gs1.org.
How to create one here
- Get your GTIN from your national GS1 member organisation — you need a licensed GTIN for retail products.
- Build the Digital Link URL in the format above. GS1's own tools can help you check it.
- Paste the URL above and create the code. Download SVG for packaging artwork.
QRLogo Studio encodes the link you give it; it does not issue or validate GTINs.
Design and print advice
- For checkout scanning, keep the code plain — dark modules on a light background, square shapes, no centre logo — and test with your retailer's scanners. GS1 and retailers publish size and placement rules; follow them.
- For marketing-only codes, you can style the code and add a logo, as long as it still scans reliably.
- Keep the URL short. A shorter link makes a less dense code that prints smaller.
Frequently asked questions
Does this replace my EAN/UPC barcode?
Not by itself. Many retailers still require the linear barcode; check with them and your GS1 member organisation before removing it.
Do I need my own website?
It's recommended so you control what shoppers see, but you can also use GS1's resolver domain.
Can I add a logo to a GS1 QR code?
For codes scanned at checkout, it is safer to keep them plain. Test any styled code thoroughly before printing on packaging.
