QR Code Tracking with UTM Links
You don't need a paid dynamic QR service to measure results. Add UTM tags to your link and every visit from the code shows up in your own analytics.
How it works
UTM parameters are labels added to the end of a link. Your analytics tool (Google Analytics 4, Matomo, Plausible and most others) reads them and reports where the visit came from. For a QR code on a spring flyer:
https://yourbrand.com/offer?utm_source=qr&utm_medium=flyer&utm_campaign=spring-sale
utm_source— alwaysqr, so you can see all QR traffic together.utm_medium— where the code is printed:flyer,poster,packaging,table.utm_campaign— the campaign or promotion name.
Paste the full tagged link above to create the code. Use a different utm_medium or utm_content for each placement to compare them.
Where to see the results
In Google Analytics 4, open Reports → Acquisition → Traffic acquisition and switch the dimension to Session source / medium or Session campaign. Filter for source qr.
What it can and can't measure
- Counts visits to your site that came from the code, plus what those visitors did next — sign-ups, purchases, time on page.
- Doesn't count scans where the person didn't open the link, or visits blocked by privacy or cookie settings, so numbers may be a little lower than true scans.
- Only works on websites where you have analytics installed. For third-party pages, point the code at a redirect on your own domain (see editable QR codes).
Long tagged links make the code denser. Keep the values short, or use a short redirect on your domain, and check the size guide before printing small.
Frequently asked questions
Does QRLogo Studio have a scan dashboard?
Not currently. Codes are static, so tracking happens in your own analytics through UTM links — free, private and permanent.
Do UTM parameters break the link?
No. Websites ignore parameters they don't use, and the page opens normally.
Can I track which poster was scanned?
Yes. Give each poster its own utm_content value, e.g. utm_content=mall-entrance, and create a separate code for each.
